Northern Chamber Orchestra Collaborative Project 2023 – 2024

  

For a second year the NCO and MMC will deliver a partnership project.  On 6 Saturday mornings through the year, NCO musicians will be visiting MMC to deliver masterclasses, input into group rehearsals, and adding variety and further depth to our programme. MMC members will benefit from these specialist, one off sessions, and will also be invited to the NCO performance on that same day. The proposal for this academic year is as follows:

Violinist

 

10am – 10.45am Intermediate Strings

The NCO violinist will attend Intermediate Strings, listening to and possibly conducting parts of the rehearsal. Adding insight and ideas for rehearsal techniques that will benefit both the tutor and the participants. Repertoire choices will be shared with the NCO specialist ahead of time.

A17 11.00 – 12.00 Upper Strings Masterclass

Members who play the violin or viola are invited to sign up to take part in this masterclass. They will be asked to bring a prepared piece, play to the NCO specialist and will receive instruction about how the performance may be enhanced or how technique may be developed. This will be an open event, where all members of MMC can come to observe. Should anyone require an accompanist we have one available.

Studio 5
Cellist 10am – 10.45am Advanced Orchestra

 

The NCO cellist will attend this Advanced Orchestra rehearsal, listening to and possibly conducting parts of the rehearsal. Adding insight and ideas for rehearsal techniques that will benefit both the tutor and the participants. Repertoire choices will be shared with the NCO specialist ahead of time.

Studio 5 11.00 – 12.00 Lower Strings Masterclass

Members who play the cello or double bass will be invited to sign up to take part in this masterclass. They will be asked to bring a prepared piece, play to the NCO specialist and will receive instruction about how the performance may be enhanced or how technique may be developed. This will be an open event, where all members of MMC can come to observe. A tutor will be available to play piano, should anyone require an accompanist.

November 4th 2023 Oboe 11:00 am – 11:45 Elementary Winds

The NCO Oboist will attend Elementary Winds, listening to and possibly conducting parts of the rehearsal. Adding insight and ideas for rehearsal techniques that will benefit both the tutor and the participants. Repertoire choices will be shared with the NCO specialist ahead of time.

A17 12:00 – 12:45 Double Reed Masterclass

Members who play Double Reed instruments will be invited to sign up to take part in this masterclass. They will be asked to bring a prepared piece, play to the NCO specialist and will receive instruction about how the performance may be enhanced or how technique may be developed. This will be an open event, where all members of MMC can come to observe. A pianist will be available to play, if accompaniment is required.

French Horn 11:00 am – 11:45 French Horn Sectional

The NCO Horn player will attend the special, one-off, session. Listening to and possibly conducting parts of the rehearsal. Adding insight and ideas for rehearsal techniques that will benefit both the tutor and the participants. Repertoire choices will be shared with the NCO specialist ahead of time.

A20 12:00 – 13:00 Brass Masterclass (MYBB invited)

Members who play Brass instruments will be invited to sign up to take part in this masterclass. They will be asked to bring a prepared piece, play to the NCO specialist and will receive instruction about how the performance may be enhanced or how technique may be developed. This will be an open event, where all members of MMC can come to observe. A pianist will be available to play, if accompaniment is required.

January 14th 2024 Flute 10:00 – 10.45am Beginner Flute Group

The NCO flautist will attend Beginner Flutes, listening to and teaching these beginners. They will demonstrate their instrument, introduce the piccolo, and together with the MMC tutor, play a few short duets that will inspire and motivate these young musicians.

 

A10 11:00 – 12:00 Flute Masterclass

Members who play flute will be invited to sign up to take part in this masterclass. They will be asked to bring a prepared piece, play to the NCO specialist and will receive instruction about how the performance may be enhanced or how technique may be developed. This will be an open event, where all members of MMC can come to observe. A pianist will be available to play, if accompaniment is required.

The NCO clarinettist will attend Clarinet Choir, listening to and possibly conducting parts of the rehearsal. Adding insight and ideas for rehearsal techniques that will benefit both the tutor and the participants. Repertoire choices will be shared with the NCO specialist ahead of time.

Teenage members of Advanced Orchestra will take part in a one-off Chamber coaching session with the NCO cellist.

A chance to take a deeper look into the challenges of the string parts for the current Advanced Orchestra repertoire. This rehearsal will be open to all those who play strings in MMC Advanced Orchestra. Repertoire choices will be shared with the NCO specialist ahead of time.

12.00 – 12.45 String Quartet Performance

Christopher Jones will lead a group of the string players from the NCO, and kindly perform for us in the relaxed setting of our coffee shop. Members are invited to come and listen and enjoy this free performance
