MMC runs courses during the summer holidays for adults and youth, with a range of orchestral and jazz ensembles.

Adult Jazz (27-31 Jul)
Small ensemble and Big Band playing alongside improvisation practice, theory and the history of jazz sessions. Course leader Kyran Matthews, with Johnny Hunter and Tom Sykes. Grade 3+, Ages 18+.

Adult Classical (10-14 Aug)
String orchestra and wind chamber ensembles. The string orchestra, directed by Louise Latham, will be focusing on English music including Britten's Simple Symphony. Specialist cello input will be provided by Barbara Grunthal.
The wind chamber ensembles will have coached sessions from course leader Sally Baldwin and instrument specialist tutors from the Northern Chamber Orchestra. There will also be time for ensembles to rehearse by themselves. Participants can apply as a pre-formed ensemble or as an individual.
There is also the opportunity for both strings and winds participants to have a one-to-one session with accompanist Martyn Parkes. Grade 5+, Age 18+

Youth ensembles course (3-7 Aug)
Small ensembles are created and we also join together to form a large orchestra. Older teenage jazz, younger jazz, winds, older strings and younger strings. Grade 1+, Ages 7-17.
