The Northern Chamber Orchestra is providing tutors to run masterclasses in orchestral strings, winds and brass instruments over the coming months. These are open to MMC members and non-members alike.
Sounds intriguing – what is a masterclass?
A masterclass is an open lesson where participants work at a piece of music they are studying with the tutor. Both participants and audience learn so much from these sessions. During the hour long session up to 4 or 5 participants can play.
Sounds a bit scary – is it only for advanced players?
Not at all. Musicians at any stage of their musical learning journey are very welcome to participate. This is the third year that the NCO has been sending tutors in and musicians at all levels have enjoyed the sessions from pre-grade 1 to grade 8. The tutors are always very positive and encouraging.
Sounds like fun – when are they happening?
- January 18: 12pm orchestral strings (violin, viola, violoncello, double bass)
- March 15: 11am and 12pm winds (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone)
- April 5: 11am and 12pm brass (cornet, trumpet, trombone, tuba, euphonium, French horn, tenor horn)
- May 3: 12pm orchestral strings, 11am and 12pm winds
