MMC Groups



We have a huge variety of music-making groups at MMC, and you can attend as many groups as you wish to for an inclusive termly fee of just £35!

We hope there will be something that appeals to you, but if not please ask, as it may be possible to start new groups if there is sufficient interest.

Musicianship for young children

Our highly trained and experienced tutor runs 3 groups drawing on Kodaly methods and Dalcroze eurhythmics to introduce young children to music through singing, games, movement and instrumental work, providing an excellent foundation before formal instrumental lessons.

Choirs

For many members this is the first chance they will have to benefit from professional vocal training. Good technique, including diction and breathing, is taught informally within the songs.  The repertoire covers popular and traditional songs from many different cultures in both unison and parts.

Ukuleles

Learning ukulele is a fantastic way to enter instrumental music making, at whatever age.  Our tutor has spare ukuleles to borrow if you are tempted to come and have a go, and try before you buy.


Absolute Beginners Recorders

If you prefer blowing to strumming why not have a go at a recorder?


Drum & Percussion Group
09:30-10:00

Total beginners can learn basic rhythmic skills while the more experienced can play sophisticated parts so that the group works as a team.


Special Needs
Time to be confirmed

During the Autumn Term 2014, MMC aim to once again provide music classes for Special Needs children.

Supportive and inclusive classes will be able to accommodate children with a range of disabilities.  Carers and parents are most welcome.

These ensembles are designed to be a natural follow on from the elementary ensembles, as playing technique improves.

Training Orchestra

The two ensembles above join together for a full orchestral rehearsal playing a wide variety of music from different genres.

Members play pieces written for wind, strings or brass and also work on orchestral material to be played by the MMC Orchestra.


MMC Orchestra
11:30-12:30

The MMC orchestra meets for a full orchestral rehearsal on three Saturdays per term.
For autumn 2014 these dates are:
  •   4 October
  • 29 November
  •   6 December
These rehearsals are to put together the work which the different sections have been rehearsing ready for the open morning performance on 13 December.


Recorder Ensemble
11:00-11:30

An advanced level ensemble for keen recorder players.


Clarinet Quartet
09:45-10:30

A small ensemble playing a different repertoire specially written for clarinets.


Synchronised Saxes
11:15-12:15

This ensemble performs some very demanding and intricate pieces.


Big Band
12:15-13:15

A full blown Big Band playing pieces by famous band leaders Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller and Henry Mancini amongst others.  They give regular performances in varied venues.


Chamber Strings
19:00-20:00 (Mondays)

An orchestral strings group for the under 18s of grade 6+ standard exploring chamber music.


THEORY AND AURAL
Theory to grade 5 and aural for all grades are offered as drop in sessions.
