  • Advanced Orchestra

    Advanced Group

    Suitable for players grade 5+. Led by an experienced orchestral player and director, this group stretches and challenges participants with a diverse range of real orchestral repertoire. Wind places will be offered on rotation for a term at a time where excess numbers register. Past repertoire includes movements from Brahms, Beethoven Mozart and Mendelssohn symphonies, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Verdi’s La Traviata and concerto movement opportunities.

  • Advanced Strings

    Advanced Group

    Suitable for orchestral string players of grade 4+. Rising grade 4 string players could come and try this group as well as Intermediate Strings. This group is led by a strings specialist and explores the string orchestra repertoire as well as providing a string sectional for the orchestra. Past repertoire includes arrangements of folk medleys, Tonight from West Side Story, Send in the Clowns, Florence Price Adoration and Janacek.

  • Advanced Wind Band

    Advanced Group

    This popular and long-standing ensemble, taught by an experienced tutor, provides participants with a perfect balance of challenge and enjoyment with parts designed to suit individuals. Suitable for players grade 4+ (brass and wind including saxophones).

  • Adventurous Ukuleles

    Advanced Group, Intermediate Group

    Suitable for those who already have experience of Ukulele (Guitars are also welcome - be prepared to adapt ukulele parts), participants will enjoy the popular repertoire carefully chosen and arranged by the group tutor. No grade required but you should know at least ukulele chords in the key C major. Percussion and bass instruments also welcome.

  • Beginner Clarinet (adults)

    Come and start learning clarinet in a small group.

  • Beginner Guitar

    Beginner Group

    Start learning guitar alongside others with a dynamic tutor. Bringing your own guitar is strongly recommended although there may be one or two available to borrow. This group will focus on new beginners but will adapt to meet the needs of those who attend. All ages - recommended year 4 and up (7+).

  • Beginner Orchestral Strings (adults)

    Beginner Group

    Come and start learning an orchestral stringed instrument in a group setting. Choose from violin, viola, cello or double bass. These groups will only run with a minimum of 4 participants and a maximum of 15. They are open to new MMC members only, unless the member is a child who has spent a year doing musicianship.

  • Beginner Recorders (under 18s)

    Beginner Group, Under 18 only

    Come and start learning recorder in a small group. Open to both under 18s and adults but new MMC members only, unless it is a child who has already attended a year of musicianship. There will be a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 per group. Under 18s and adults will be taught separately. Groups will only run if the minimum number is reached so encourage a friend to sign up. Register your interest and we will let you know whether the group will start running in September or be deferred until a later term.

    Beginner Group

    This ever-popular ensemble re-starts with a tutor who brings a wealth of experience and insight from the world of Jazz. Suitable for advanced level players.

    This choir is for anyone wanting to delve into vocal technique and be challenged with more advanced choral repertoire. Ideal for anyone preparing for higher level grades to support aural training and musicianship.

    Advanced Group

    A popular and long-standing group with one of our experienced tutors. Parts suit each player and repertoire is diverse in style and challenge. Suitable for clarinettists Grade 5 and above.

    Intermediate Group

    This group is for intermediate saxes (grades 2-5) to discover the classical repertoire. Parts will be written for individuals. A minimum of 6 registration is needed for this group to run.

    Elementary Group

    Anyone who has recently started on their instrumental journey is welcome to this group. Suitable for players who have some experience of reading musical notation, and are starting to explore playing in D major, A major and G major. This group is taught by an experienced tutor, with parts designed to suit individual players.

    This group is for intermediate to advanced flautists (grades 3+) to explore the flute choir repertoire.

    Beginner Group, Under 18 only

    A dynamic, movement-based class where children are led through musical learning with games, songs and engaging activities. The material covered will prepare participants for a Grade One assessment in Music Theory.

  • Grade 4-5 Musicianship and Theory

    Advanced Group, Intermediate Group

    Structured, systematic and engaging material will form the basis of this more advanced class in music theory. Participants will be inspired by a wide range of listening material that link musical themes and elements of theory to new and known repertoire. The material covered will prepare participants for a Grade 5 assessment in Music Theory.

  • Intermediate Strings

    Intermediate Group

    Suitable for strings players grade 1-4 this ensemble provides the perfect introduction to the string orchestra repertoire. The focus of this group is to develop sight-reading and ensemble playing skills. Participants will enjoy the varied repertoire introduced by an experienced and popular tutor.

  • Intermediate Wind Band

    Intermediate Group

    This popular and long-standing ensemble, taught by an experienced tutor, provides participants with a perfect balance of challenge and enjoyment with parts designed to suit individuals. Suitable for wind and brass instruments and bass guitar grade 3+, however saxophone players should join the Simply Saxes or Synchronised Saxes - not this group.

    This group gives members an opportunity to delve into the world of Jazz. For intermediate and advanced players, this group will initially focus on melodic improvisation.

    Beginner Group, Under 18 only

    Suitable for children aged 3-7, this Early Years class will inspire musical imagination and provide an ideal foundation for a musical future. The group may be divided into two shorter sessions depending on sign-ups.
